The Elements Bits and Pieces

Elements Bits and Pieces

Today I thought we would have a bit of fun with the Elements and look at how they appear in many stages of life. They are all short segments and hopefully I have captured the essence in each one of them. I am giving you this to read over the weekend as I ponder over where to go next with the blog on the Elements. Should I go deeper into the Elements or more into the subconscious? I am in a bit of a quandary. Enjoy todays bits and pieces and if there is someone out there with an insight on where I should go next with this blog I would love to hear from them. For now I will ponder some more and continue to work on book three in the 33rd Sage trilogy. The second book 'The 33rd Sage and the Initiate' should be out around the spring equinox or the fall for my northern readers.

I hope you enjoy the bits and pieces
Sexuality
The Earth type believes that sex is an instinct that must be appeased. They consider it necessary to discharge their tensions and frustrations or they become irritable and anger. They do not need a deep emotional connect as long as the sex is good and brings them release. In a committed relationship they see sex as a duty to be performed by the partner and become angry if they are not appeased.
Water makes a deep emotional connection with their sexual partners and likes commitments. They sometime feel swept off their feet spontaneously and later wonder why they have become intimately involved. In a relationship they must feel that the partner is in tune with their feelings or they become cold or frigid.
Fire sees sex as playful encounter. Sometimes they treat the partner as if they are special until they have satisfied themselves and then they are on to a new game. In a committed relationships sex must supported by an erotic fantasies or they become bored and as we know boredom is not something that the Fire deals all with.
Air combine romantic incentives like art, music and poetry with sex. They like to discuss life and are prone to “head trips”. Don't forget that acts of services is their love language. The Earth and Fire (hot temperaments) think of physical sexuality first and then emotional and mental contact. The Water and Air (cold temperaments) like to have emotional and mental contact first before physical intercourse.
Sleep
Excessive sleep is a sign of coldness and moisture as seen in the Water Element. Excessive wakefulness indicates heat and dryness as seen in the Earth type. Water need the most sleep and are very slow waking. If they are deprived of sleep they become emotional, tearful and their sensorium becomes dull. Earth need less sleep but often has trouble letting go and really resting deeply. They suffer from lack of sleep, food, and rest and become irritable, angry and morose. Air discharges much mental energy and needs sleep to rejuvenate their systems, but they have trouble staying asleep and because their sensorium is disturbed easily. They become melancholic, nervous and depressed from lack of sleep. Fire is very lively and festive in nature and stays up for long period but they exhausted themselves and then sleep deeply. They become bloody minded, angry and violent when deprived of sleep.

In the Home
When in a room the cold types of Air and Water naturally like to keep the windows and doors closed unless it is very warm while the hot types Fire and Earth like to keep the windows and doors open when it is not too cold. When a cold type and hot type are in the same environment, it is hard for them to feel comfortable together. A Fire type tends to be over heated and sweaty so they want the windows open and the fan on. The Water tends to be cold and sweaty so moving air makes them colder so they want the windows closed and the fan off and yet when unwell they are generally better for fresh air. A Fire type likes to keep the drapes open because they like to see what is going on outside and like others to see them. They tend to be more exhibitionists. A Water type, however, likes to keep the drapes partly closed because they do not want strangers to look in the home but they need light or they feel sad; which is especially true in the winter when the light is far less. Earth also likes to keep the windows open but they keep the drapes partially closed because they sometimes have a tendency to be more secretive; especially when they are out of a balance. Air likes to keep the windows closed because they are sensitive to drafts but they keep the drapes partially open because darkness makes them more depressed.
The Earth type treats the home like a workplace and tends to store useful articles where they can be most easily accessed. Water likes their home to be peaceful, private, personal and comfortable. Fire likes to decorate the house brightly and give it an open and festive atmosphere. Air tends to treat the house like a gallery or library and expect other to respect the organization of the premises; out of a balance and we have the over organized and the obsessive cleaners. The practical Earth Element becomes impatient and irritated if guests do not lend a hand in the chores associated with up keep of the home. The sensitive Water feels overwhelmed and hurt if guests do not conform to the established routines of the household. The proud Fire becomes agitated and humiliated if they are not shown enough appreciation for their activities as a host. Air becomes forlorn, fussy and hypochondriacal when guests do not acknowledge the reasons behind their efforts at maintaining order.
Shopping
At the store the Earth Element selects clothes that they think are practical and good looking in earth colors like brown, tan and green. They like well cut clothes that are a tight fit. They like to strike a good deal and look for good bargains. How much something cost is important and the bargaining allows them to stay in control.
The Water type purchases loose clothes that compensate for the watery weight they hold around the hips and thighs in mellow colors like blue, white and pastel colors. They like garments that flow like water and move in waves. They buy what they feel is right for them although they don’t like to overspend unnecessarily. Sometimes, they can’t make up their minds and take a long time to make a decision.
The Fire type buys fashionable, loud clothes that enhance the athletic figure in bright colors like red, orange and yellow. They like to wear as little as possible and show their chests and legs. They buy things impulsively and money is no object.
The Air type prefers classic clothes that are tasteful in darker colors like black, purple, brown and grey. They are economical in the purchases and businesslike in their transactions and like to compare and weigh what they buy. They like things that make them look sophisticated.
Occupation
At work the Earth type is serious and hard working and they try to move forward by showing that they are efficient, trustworthy and practical. They may not get along all that well with other employees and tend to blame others for any mistakes or failures in the business. They are difficult, demanding bosses that demand loyalty and do not like to take in the views of others.
The Water type is trustworthy and may appear a little slow but they are persistent and careful in their work. As a boss they listen to their employees and willing to take suggestions but do make new changes quickly.
The Fire type is capable of a large amount of work but they like to waste time, are easily distracted, and get bored by routines. They are friendly but challenging employers that like to give orders and don’t take suggestions all that well. One day they act as if an individual is very special and next day they are fired.
The Air type has a strong capacity for intellectual pursuits but little physical stamina. They can become obsessed with details and forget the bigger picture. They are very exacting employers who demand paying attention to what they are thinking. They tend to second guess every move of their employees.
Entertainment
The Earth type like action movies that have quick moving plots with clear cut roles for the actors. Earth roles are hard realists who have a strong belief that the ends justify the means. They like documentaries about real life and politics. They like fast music and enjoy strong rhythms. They like to go out but are not fond of staying in one place for to long. They like to get around town.
The Water Element like light romantic comedies, movies with animals and slow moving dramas with emotional endings. They like documentaries on nature. They like slow moving music with changes in mood and tempo. They like to go to quiet places that with mood and setting.
The Fire type prefer comedies that have a strong sexual content as well as violent movies with heroes that are successful in the goals. They find most documentaries boring unless they are entertaining. They like loud music with power and passion. They like to be seen and heard and go to places that have a party atmosphere.
Air types like movies that have complex plots, conspiracies and intrigue as well as scientific documentaries. They like to be intellectually challenged by what they see. They like sophisticated music that has depth and meaning. They prefer outings to parties and like to visit places with a history.
Out for Dinner
When going out for dinner the Fire types love to be festive and order a large amount of rich food and drinks for everyone. They love to talk and joke during the meal and turn everything into a party. They often order too much and waste food and money. They like to eat red meat but may have quit for health reasons. They also can have a craving for sweets. Earth need to be more careful about what they eat because they are prone to indigestion, especially from the type the Fire Elements love to order. They are very serious about food and drink but may eat far too fast. They don’t like to waste food or money. They like strong spices and fried food but it does not agree with them. They tend to over indulge in anything life has to offer even though they will suffer from it.
The Water types are often watching their weight so they usually order for themselves but later end up eating things off the plates of others. They eat their food slowly and carefully and will over eat when emotional. They like salty foods but must be careful not to over indulge because of water retention. They also like sweets and carbohydrates because they provide temporary energy but they make them feel tired later. The Air type orders food they think will make them feel stronger. They like sour foods and condiments and oil but they must be careful or they cause indigestion. They take their time ordering and look over all the options on the menu. They are very particular in their table manners and do not like a commotion while ordering or eating. Fire eat to enjoy, Earth eats to live and enjoy the sensation of the food, Water eat what makes them feel good and the Air type eat what they think is appropriate for the situation.
At the Party
At the party Fire types take up center stage, talk and laugh loudly, and act as if they are leading actors. When Fire types get together they all talk at the same time and no one listens. When drunk they can become loud, boisterous, amative and violent. Intermingled with them are the choleric types who are sarcastically countering the idealism of the Fire types and arguing with their overly hopeful expectations. When too many Earth types get together they end up skirmishing each other. When drunk they often end up fighting with someone before the night is over. The Water type is introspective and tend to sit back and “soak up the energy”. They feel happy or sad depending on what others are feeling. They rarely will take center stage by themselves but they often attach themselves onto someone who does so they can play a strong supporting role in which they can be full of mirth. When drunk they tend to sit back and watch until they fail into a slumber.
The Air type is more likely to stand slightly to the side like a commentator and run a monolog of “dry humour” and attention-grabbing observations. They like to strike up intelligent conversations to balance out the din of the festive revelers.  When drunk they may become very sorrowful and lose control over there normally repressed emotions. Sometimes the drier Earth and Air types get together and make witty jokes directed at the Fire folks and the mirth of the over impressionability of the Water types. At the same time, the moist types wonder why the dry types don’t know how to let go and just party. This is one of the basic differences in the thinkers and feelers. The moist types feel everyone “should just do it” while the dry types think “what should I do?”
I hope that was a bit of fun. Remember we all have a bit of all the Elements within us and so we can all display a bit from all the elements, but generally we have one element that is more dominant than the others.
